The Mars Protocol: Prologue

“The Earth is the cradle of humanity, but mankind cannot stay in the cradle forever.” — Russian rocket scientist Konstantin Tsiolkovsky

The fifth epoch has begun.

First, computing had mainframes (Epoch 1). The size of rooms, these computational behemoths gave birth to PCs (Epoch 2).

PCs gave us the web (Epoch 3), which led to mobile computing (Epoch 4).

Today, blockchain represents a new computational epoch or paradigm (Epoch 5).

Because it’s open-source, this epoch does not grow linearly but exponentially.

Innovation curves ladder on top of innovation curves.

The rate of change is so fast, it’s bewildering.

And it’s at the heart of this bewilderment that Terra blockchain plants its flag. It brings the best of the past into the future.

Instead of asking humankind to learn about cryptographic protocols and unusual new currencies, Terra gives them something they already understand: simple crypto versions of their own national currencies.

Known as stablecoins, these cryptos have the same value as their fiat siblings. There’s a Terra stablecoin for the U.S. dollar (UST), the South Korean won (KRT), and the Mongolian Tugrik (MNT). Eventually there will be a Terra stablecoin for every major currency on the planet.

Using them is fast, cheap and intuitive. They give consumers all of the advantages of crypto without the learning curve.

And it’s in that simple elegance that we see the future.

It’s where we plant our own flag.

Mars is a decentralized team of builders in more than a dozen countries around the world. We build on Terra. And soon, we’ll unveil Mars Protocol. It will be Terra’s first-ever money market protocol… a place where users around the world can come to lend and borrow any form of value.

And it will only be the beginning.

Mars Protocol will be the foundation for a new constellation of not just financial products but of governance and collaboration, too. We aim to seed life on a new planet… one that takes the best of the old world and uses it to build something radically new.

In the weeks to come, we will tell you more about our mission, our progress, and how you can get involved. Sign up here to become part of the journey from the very start.

To leave the cradle, we’ll need bold new explorers at our sides. We will need you.
